DESCRIPTION:Diwali is known as the “Festival of Lights\,” and it marks the end of the harvest season. As the days grow shorter and the onset of winter nears\, the festival offers a beacon of joy and hope\, illuminating the darker months ahead.  \n  \nIn Indian tradition\, it symbolizes the victory of light over darkness. Homes and places of worship are illuminated with lamps and diyas\, signifying the transition from darkness to light. Families gather to perform rituals and ceremonies and to indulge in festive feasts filled with a variety of sweets and snacks. They share these with friends\, neighbours\, and others in their community as a way of spreading joy and fostering a sense of togetherness and overall wellbeing in society.  \nThe Indian community in Longford brings a touch of this culture to the town by celebrating Diwali annually. The year 2026 will mark the fourth year of these celebrations in Longford\, during which the community aims to honour traditional values while sharing joy and goodwill with the wider Longford community.  \n
